Geoffrey L. Cohen is a Professor of Psychology and the James G. March Professor of Organizational Studies in Education and Business at Stanford University. Professor Cohen's research focuses on how people's sense of belonging and self-concept influences various social issues. He explores threats to belonging and self-integrity across settings such as schools, workplaces, healthcare, and communities. Along with his colleagues, he has developed science-backed strategies to foster more inclusive environments for diverse individuals. He is guided by the belief that psychological theory advances not only through observation but also through theory-driven intervention. Inspired by Kurt Lewin, he advocates for the idea that "the best way to understand something is to try to change it."
He is a social psychologist by training and received his PhD at Stanford and his BA at Cornell.
